Make Room
A digital rent party to raise awareness of the rental affordability crisis in America that leaves 1 in 4 renter households paying more than half of their income to rent.
Artists performed in the homes of renters struggling to make ends meet. Make Room told their stories and distributed the content on our website and through artists' channels on Vevo, spread the word on social through the artist’s fan base, and passed the hat through crowdfunding.
Outside Detroit, the Rollins family hosted Miguel for an intimate performance.
Make Room Concerts for the 1st
Make Room produced seven concerts over a 2 year period, working with Matter Unlimited. This is our concert in Detroit for Devona Rollins and her family, featuring Miguel.
My contributions as Director of Digital and executive producer for the concerts included sourcing the families to be featured, vetting them and interviewing them to write feature stories and on-camera interview questions. I was on-site (and at the monitor) for concerts and shoots, acting as the POC for the families. Post-production, I provided guidance on editing and messaging for the final video edits and created all of the communications to promote the video, including celebrity tweets, social media posts and graphics for Make Room and partner promotions, email marketing and the website.
Renter Advocacy Campaign
I conceived of this campaign as a way to create a custom interface for data and messaging capabilities from CQ Roll Call/Engage to enable our supporters to reach out to their elected officials (federal, state and local) and tell them to put rental housing on their agenda.
I hired Human Design to collaborate on the concept, build the web application and provide resources to film the renter stories we had received, which were the genesis of the campaign.
I worked closely with the designer and developer to create the look, feel and functionality of the website and also acted as a producer for the content created to support the campaign. I helped script the video and was onsite for all of the filming. I provided editing direction for the final edit of the video and wrote all of the website content, social media and email copy.
